Your wedding venue is an extremely important aspect of your wedding. When you finally decide on a venue to go with, it is important to know exactly what you are signing up for and what your contract means. At Forever Bridal, we will be giving you a summary of some of the terms you’ll see and what they mean. We picked out the most important ones too, so have a read below and enlighten yourself on them.
- Admin Fee
This is the fee that goes towards the payment of the person or people organizing the event. Keep in mind, this is not the tip.
- Damaged Goods
This is the sum of money you pay on a rented item to ensure you return it in good condition; however, if the item is damaged, broken, or missing, you will not be getting this money back.
- Failure to Perform
This explains what will happen if a vendor fails to do the job that you hired them to do.
- Force Majeure
This also known as an “act of God”, and stands for an event in which no party can be held responsible; so think of a natural disaster or catastrophe that prevents the fulfillment of the contract.
- Gratuity
This is just a fancy word for a tip. It may sometimes be included in the contract, but not always. Sometimes the vendor might want you to decide if their services were good enough to warrant you leaving a tip.
- Governing Laws
This is the clause that allows a particular state’s laws to be applied, should there be a legal dispute. It is usually the state of the vendor.
- Harassment Clause
This is the clause that states that harassment will not be tolerated by the clients or their guests. Being nice is an absolute must here.
- Hold Harmless and Indemnification
This part of the contract protects one party, should the other get injured, suffer losses, or claim damages. It can be unilateral which means it protects only the vendor. Or it can be reciprocal which means protects both the vendor and the client. Indemnification; on the other hand, is a provision under which a party commits to compensate the other for any harm arising out of the contract.
- Initial Deposit
This is the money that you pay to secure the venue for your wedding date. It is most often non-refundable.
- Scope of Services
This is where the vendor lists what they are promising to provide for you.
- Termination Clause
This is the part of the contract that spells out what happens if the client no longer wants to work with the vendor and vice versa.
