As a child growing up in Jerusalem, Jamil Kadoura worked at a falafel stand outside of his high school. This small, local food stand is where he would fall in love with the restaurant business.

Kadoura immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1980s. He attended business school in Minnesota and began a career in the hotel and restaurant industry. A decade later, he would open the Chapel Hill staple Mediterranean Deli.

Since opening in 1991, the restaurant – locally known as “Med Deli” – has become a go-to eatery in the Triangle area. Not only is it known for its wide array of delicious dishes, but also for its professional and reasonably priced wedding catering and venue services. With decades worth of raving reviews and a unique, healthy menu, Mediterranean Deli is the perfect wedding caterer for your special day.

The Story Venue

The Story is Mediterranean Deli’s newly renovated event venue on Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill. Once the site of the Colonial Drug Store, the space’s name serves to honor and preserve the story of the Chapel Hill Nine, a group of African American teenage boys who staged a sit-in and were subsequently arrested in 1960.

The newly renovated event venue The Story.

The Story has four main spaces: the Ballroom, the Rooftop, the Game Room and the Bridal Room, with a total capacity of 350 people. With exposed brick walls, hardwood floors throughout, professional lighting and 12-foot-high ceilings in the Ballroom, the venue is a beautiful backdrop for a wedding reception.

Although it is owned by Mediterranean Deli, you can opt to bring in your own caterer instead. The Story has a full ABC license, so it can handle any of your bar service needs as well.
